If I read one more time on Facebook where a car sales washout says “when I was in sales” or complain about the industry because they couldn’t cut it, I’m gonna start calling them out.

Maybe if the cars weren’t bad more people would buy them

This is...common?

If the store average is 10, and even some people selling 20 every month, and you’re doing 2 a month, that’s not the product.

I used to manage 1-3 sales. A year.
Granted, I used to sell equipment that cost $800,000 - $1.2M, so 3 was pretty good, but...yeah....

Moreso than you think. The sheer number of dealerships in nova and my generation’s and the churn and burn mentality up here creates a lot of washouts. And I’m generally a likable fellow. So people always wanna add me on Facebook.

That’s a little different...
And I’m sure no one else in your field was doing 20 units a month.

I was shitty at selling cars, straight up. I have no charisma and do not know how to convince people unless it’s something philosophical. In 4 months of selling cars I think I sold 15-20 maybe.

Do you regularly speak about your time in the business as if you were a grizzled veteran? Or approach life with a sense of entitlement that you have never once earned in said life?
If not, then you’re good.

A B C, Always Be Closing. (I’m a sh!tty closer... if the product is junky I have a really hard time convincing a customer it’s worth buying..)

I sold cars in Memphis. I sold at a well-known “wholesale-style” large scale local dealer. My customers usually had the sketchiest of financials situations. I am a Memphian but not a black memphian. This complicates things. I like cars as hobbies and think they are more than appliances. Low education, low income people do not think or feel this way. I am also physically intimidating.
All these things and a generally angry personality lend themselves to being a fucking awful salesman.

People wash out of car sales? Where do they wash out to?.

I’m pretty big myself and usually compensate by pushing out my drawl a bit more and play the aww shucks country boy up a bit more.
Getmedones are either a God-send or your worst enemy depending on the strength of your Finance department.

Around here, the common excuse or cop out is “going back to school for IT”. Or they go back to whatever field flushed them out beforehand.

I accept your nomination! Ask not, what Oppo can do for you! Ask what you can do for Oppo!

Back when I was in sales, I couldn’t cut it. So I went back to my previous career in IT.
Check all the boxes for ya?

Sales wasn’t for me. My personality didn’t fit with car sales so I lasted about six weeks and sold five cars. This was in 2000.
I find that I’m much more adept at getting people to buy into ideas than products. I’m also a natural performer. That’s why I’m back in school for my teaching degree.
Also, to paraphrase John Stuart Mill, most salesmen are not self-absorbed pricks, but most self-absorbed pricks are salesmen.

Is that really any different than the people in sales though? In my experience most sales people talk like grizzled veterans of a cut-throat industry with a sense of entitlement they have never once earned in life.
The only difference is one group complains about it, the other brags about it. All of y’all should just take a chill pill.

One of the few good decisions I’ve made, yeh.
